Top 10 Largest Wheat Producing States in India 2026 with Map

Uttar Pradesh, with a total wheat production of 35.65 million tonnes in the crop year 2024-25, is the largest wheat-producing state in India.

UP is followed by Madhya Pradesh and Punjab as the second and third largest wheat-producing states in India, respectively.

Uttar Pradesh also had the largest area under wheat cultivation, at 9.60 million hectares (refer to the table given later in this article for data on other states).

  • Wheat production figures are based on the Final Estimates for the 2024–25 crop year.
  • In India, the crop year runs from July to June of the following year.
  • While some data for 2025–26 is available, it is based on Advance Estimates and is not final.
  • Final Estimates are usually released around October–November (e.g., 2024–25 data was released in November 2025).

  • The total production of wheat in India is estimated at 117.94 million tonnes, which is 4.65 million tonnes higher than the previous year’s production of 113.29 million tonnes.
  • The total Area Under Wheat Cultivation in India was 32.80 million hectares, with an average Yield of 3,595 kilograms per hectare.
  • Top 3 Wheat Producing States in India:
    1. Uttar Pradesh
    2. Madhya Pradesh
    3. Punjab
  • The above three states are also the top 3 in the largest area under wheat cultivation.
  • Among Indian States, Punjab had the best yield in wheat production followed by Haryana.
  • India is the world’s second-largest producer of wheat after China.
  • India is also the world’s second-largest consumer of wheat after China.
